RENEWAL Supports Sierra Club’s “Faith in Action” Report

June 19, 2008 — National

On June 19th, Sierra Club announced the release of its first-ever national faith appreciation report.  "Faith in Action" identifies religious partners in every state who are addressing a range of creation care issues. Lyndsay Moseley, of the Sierra Club's Environmental Partnerships Program said, "We are inspired by the faith community's leadership in working to protect the planet, and this report is our way of saying ‘thank you' to the many people of faith working on creation care initiatives across the country."

Sierra Club activists have been working alongside religious community groups and faith institutions every day. In fact, many Sierra Club members come to their environmental activism from a place of faith. Forty seven percent of Club members say that they attend religious services at least once per month.

This important report offers strong confirmation that the religious-environmental movement, as portrayed so vividly in RENEWAL, continues to thrive and grow. Some of the impressive faith-partners in the Sierra Club report have also been profiled in the documentary.

In coming months, the Renewal Project and the Sierra Club plan to hold collaborative RENEWAL screenings and other events that will bring greater recognition of the outstanding efforts of these faith groups, as well as greater awareness to the entire religious-environmental movement.

The Renewal Project is delighted to partner with the Sierra Club to support these important initiatives. The name of the new report, says it all,

"Faith in Action: Communities of Faith Bring Hope for the Planet."
